In the past five months, I have worked alongside other North American youth to further develop the youth website. We have developed content and also worked on the concept. It is in the process of being programmed. We have also committed ourselves to learning computer programming which will enable us to sustain the website on our own. Our commitment to creating a sustainable youth website for youth, by youth, is being realized.
I have also been involved in putting together inserts educating readers of Lonely Planet guidebooks about child sex tourism. Thus far we have designed inserts for 7 guidebooks, and continue to work with the publishers at Lonely Planet on the upcoming guidebooks on Latin and South American destinations. The inserts for the Lonely Planet guidebooks aim to educate travellers and encourage responsible travelling, and our commitment to this process is also being realized.
In February of 2007 I attended a meeting for the National Committee against Sexual Exploitation of Aboriginal Children and helped to bring forth the youth perspective. The work with the Senate Advisory Committee continues, and through this work I have been able to put a youth perspective into the development of guidelines for the NGO submission on the Optional Protocol on the Sale of Children. I am also in the process of securing funding for research on the issue of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Aboriginal Children in Canada, as it has become apparent that Aboriginal children face a very different situation, and have very different needs than many other children in Canada. |
